It’s never too late
Active Adults 50+ & Seniors
Better balance, more flexibility, a sharper memory and the confidence to handle yourself — at your own pace.

Fighting old age, kicking and screaming
That’s the title of a black belt essay by LaRue Rains, who gave herself her first Taekwondo class as a 52nd birthday present. She’d never been athletic. Years later, she was breaking boards, running trails and testing for black belt.
Taekwondo is surprisingly well-suited to adults over 50. Stretching restores range of motion. Stances and kicks build leg strength and balance — the foundation of fall prevention. Learning forms keeps the mind sharp. And knowing how to defend yourself brings a quiet confidence.
You set the pace. Kicks can be low, stances can be shallow, and every technique can be adapted for knees, hips and backs. Talk with your instructor about any health concerns, and check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

Adapted for you
Go at your pace
Every exercise has an easier and a harder version. You choose.
Low-impact options
Kicks, stances and drills can be modified for joints and old injuries.
Train with family
Grandparents and grandkids in the same class is one of our favorite sights.
Lifelong learning
There’s always another form, another detail, another rank to work toward.
Typical of many people, as I got older, my metabolism slowed… my balance wasn’t what it had been; in other words, I was feeling my age, and knew I had to do something about it. For my 52nd birthday, I gave myself the gift of a Tae Kwan Do class at our local recreation center.

Common questions
I have bad knees (or a bad back). Can I still train?
In most cases, yes. Let your instructor know before class and we’ll show you modifications. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program.
Will I be the oldest one there?
Maybe — and nobody will care! Our students range from 6 to well over 60, and some of our most dedicated black belts started in their 50s.
