Why Taekwondo?

More than kicks. A stronger body, a calmer mind and real-world confidence.

Taekwondo — “the way of the hand and foot” — is a traditional Korean martial art. Every class blends fitness, technique and character. Students leave sweaty and smiling, and over time they find themselves more focused, more flexible and better able to keep themselves safe.

  • Body: strength, stamina, balance and flexibility
  • Mind: focus, confidence and stress relief
  • Character: courtesy, integrity, perseverance and self-control
  • Safety: awareness, avoidance and practical self-defense

Family membership cost per person: $40 for one, $30 each for two, as low as $18 each for five

Train together

The family that kicks together…

…laughs together, sweats together, and practices forms in the living room together. Because all ages share the same class, parents don’t have to sit on the sidelines — and siblings don’t need separate schedules.

It is also a huge help to have a study buddy, or do classes as a family activity. It’s a lot harder to say “I just don’t feel like going to class tonight,” when you know that there is a friend there who is going to wonder where you are.

Benefits by age

What each generation gets out of class

A six-year-old and a sixty-year-old can stand on the same mat and both get exactly what they need. Kids build focus and coordination. Teens set goals and earn real skills. Adults find a workout that never gets boring. And active adults over 50 build the balance and flexibility that keep them doing what they love.

Voices from the mat

Real students. Real transformations.

“For my 52nd birthday, I gave myself the gift of a Tae Kwan Do class at our local recreation center… I remember telling my sister that I felt achieving a green belt was a bigger accomplishment for me than graduating from college.”

LaRue Rains
started at 52, earned her black belt

“A lot of people might think I’m incapable of doing something because I have a disability and that’s not really true. It’s just a difference and that difference I think makes me stronger.”

Nelson Longpearce
started at age 6 with a leg difference

“My father has been participating with me and we practice each week in class in addition to practicing at home. We have finally achieved the rank of 1st Kyp.”

Questions?

Good things to know before your first class

Do I need to be in shape or flexible to start?

Not at all — that’s what class is for. Everyone starts as a white belt, and every exercise can be scaled. Many of our students started out unable to touch their toes.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable workout clothes (sweatpants or athletic pants and a T-shirt) and a water bottle. We train barefoot on the mat. You won’t need a uniform until you’re getting ready for your first belt test.

How old do kids need to be?

Our classes are for ages 6 and up. Kids train in the same class as teens and adults, which is a big part of what makes it work: younger students learn from older ones, and parents can train right alongside their children.

Can parents train with their kids?

Yes — and we love it. Our family memberships make it affordable: $60/month for two family members, or $90/month for three to five.

Is there a contract?

No. Membership is month-to-month. Your first class is free, so you can see whether it’s a good fit before paying anything.
